The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

The Journey Continues
