The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it may seem like standard biological terror, but beneath Together exists a deep examination about our choices in loving each other.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for over ten years. Married in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Millie and Tim relocate from the big city to the country for professional reasons. A familiar story element, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the tropes cease. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence starts to affect the duo. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying of scares, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they masterfully render countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and far away from his network of friends. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie face the kind of problems that come with long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they have affection for one another. They still laugh together, offer support, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these fears of codependency and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s ending, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Conversely, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale sow anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your partner and say, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience right now.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
